This is a list of many of the
questions that clients, builders, and architects ask
about Acasa's unique building system.
Q:
How is an Acasa Home different?
A: It is a holistic building system that, as a production
home, includes new technologies like thin panel solar
PV systems as standard.
Q: What is it
made of?
A: Acasa Homes are made of wood and wood-based products
like some of the newer plywoods that use (non-toxic)
protein-based adhesives. Acasa also uses other materials
like bamboo ans soy-based insulation.
Q: How much
does it cost?
A: While cost in housing is a constantly moving target,
Acasa generally runs 20-22% below standard houses
in costs. This puts Acasa housing on par with modular
systems, but at much higher quality than modular.
Q: Is this the
same as a modular home?
A: No. Acasa is a distinctly unique building system
made of integrated parts. While parts are made in
the factory, they are completely assembled on the
site. This rapid building system allows the house
to be better integrated to the site. Also, because
of its design flexibility, it is highly customizable.
This means more choices for the home buyer.
Q: Can you build
a Sthapatya Vedic house with the Acasa System?
A: Yes. Acasa systems are highly precise and design
flexible.
Q: Why do you
use plywood?
A: Plywood is an excellent building material: dimensionally
stable, great strength-to-weight performance, highly
uniform, and highly sustainable from fast-growth managed
forests---and it can be made of bamboo. With the new
protein and soy glues, plywood is completely non-toxic.
Incidentally, plywood is an old material: some plywood
parts have been found in ancient Egyptian tombs, and
ancient Chinese societies used plywood. Used in France
and Germany in the Seventeen Century, plywood was
first patented in the U.S. in the 1860's.
