Experiencing The Republican Convention
I think that I had some work to do on monday night, but there were a couple of tennis matches on (U.S. Open), and I tried to do some reading, but Johan was up late and I couldn't really get time, you know. I noticed that the convention was lined up right next to the comedy channel on the schedule, or was it last comic standing? I thought that was somehow appropriate.
Either on monday or tuesday I scrolled by and took a look at who was speaking... We hardly ever use the volume on the TV anymore, finding the text version less invasive... we can talk, come and go, and not have the entire evening dominated by TV sound. I think McCain was talking, and I just felt sorry for him... having to be the loyal lapdog for these guys (see my last post on the "strongly held views of children"). Being a loyal republican makes some sense, I guess, only I'd hate to do it right now.
Frankly, nothing has made the democrats look so good as the republicans in recent years. The democrats seemed kind of lost and antiquated there for a while. Gore the epitome of old style economics going nowhere. And then, while in power, and when tested, the true stripes of the republicans showed through: an unimaginative brutish lot of warbuilders.
They have been so wrong, so many times in the last few years, it's as if a group of dinosaurs got in office and won't let go.
And here I am, praying for an ice age, like right away. Maybe the day after tomorrow.
Cruised by between shows and saw Giuliani, I think. Not sure. Maybe 40 seconds. And a few other times between matches (Sharapova really turned it on at the last minute, didn't she?). Some kind of shiny stiffs I didn't know were on. Second level republicans. Finally I actually had the volume on last night when Mrs. Bush spoke... Maybe for about three minutes. That's all we could take. Really... The idea that this woman is not only supportive of George here but actually thinks that she has the intellectual capability to speak on the issue of terrorism...
Well, don't that just beat all?
I'm sorry girl, but I just don't believe that you've thought this one through. especially since you are married to a guy who has stopped thinking on the topic long ago. A guy who, by the way, it has recently been revealed, DECIDED to go to war with Iraq. Not asking his helpers why, just how.
I'm sorry, that wife speaking thing was an embarrassing moment for every woman of intelligence in the world. Especially Condi should know better. But... even the very bright can go astray. Especially since the democrat that lost Condi's interest was Carter (another story).
Tonight George spoke. But of course there was tennis on again and even though I scrolled by I really couldn't stand to listen.
It's just that simpering, presumptive but still unerringly dull face that gets you. And the long long drag of listening to a man of less than average intelligence who still, somehow, due to quirk of fate, is clumsily wielding extraordinary power, and driving our culture to the brink of destruction by forces that are way way beyond his comprehension, such as it is.
The republicans sneered that the democrats actually think that WE are the problem.
They got that right, at least. We (whoever) do believe that we are the problem. We are 100% of every problem. We have no one to blame but ourselves. Anyone who doesn't take responsibility is a victim. Is that what we want to be, as a country? We have created these enemies, and we can uncreate them. But you don't uncreate enemies by declaring war on them. That just gives them strength and significance out on the wadis.
You can't stop terrorism with guns and bombs. Read my lips: Israel.
You we need a peace on terror, not a war on terror.
You can't war with terror. You only create more desperate men (and women). You need to create peace.
These people know how to create war. They are pretty blank on creating peace. That's the specialty of some other people, e.g. - http://www.uspeacegovernment.org.
I suppose that some people may think that I should listen to these republicans to understand them better. But I can hardly stand to look at someone like Cheney, the terse, condescending cold fish of the century, much less listen.
I keep thinking of a nasty phrase, something like if you listen to _ _ _ holes, all you ever hear is s _ _ t.
So, I'd rather check out the tennis, or the history channel (those that don't learn from it, tend to become it)
Ain't it great though, to have freedom of speech, so that I can say these things. In some cultures people like me have been jailed and executed.
But, lest we forget, freedom of speech was made for moments like this.
...When freedoms are being systematically attacked and hampered by those that do it all in the name of protection. They need fear to get way with it, but what they are getting away with is our way of life.
That whole freedom thing that we were, uh, fighting for, is being compromised because, after all, we're fighting, so we've got to cut down on freedoms...
Kind of circular, eh? Circular like a slow spiral into totalitarianism. Who do you think Hitler had the Germans scared about? (the communists).
I'm just so sick of these so called republicans. Bush. Cheney. Rumsfield. Ashcroft. An old, old crowd.
These are the people that Vietnam never really changed. These are the people who didn't get it then and even now can criticize Kerry for opposing the (BIG UGLY JOKE) war in Vietnam. These are people older than me, for gosh sakes. This is their last laugh, I'm telling you. This is their last chance to mess things up before the real boomers take over.
I really wish that they would hurry up and die off now like good little dinosaurs, or at least crawl back into the caves from which they emerged and, muttering to themselves in increasing idiocy, forgotten, wraithlike, gollumesque, simply dry up and blow away.
As Kruschchev once said, we will bury you.
But now, I don't think so, just to bug you, we're going to have you cremated, and spread your ashes over Lake Erie while a choir of three sings Kumbaya.
That'll be the day.
