Apathy

The red man was a bad man
Not bad in and of himself
Just the wrong man
in the high place
at the wrong time
Who knew that the red man
would be the leader
at the hardest time?
So when it came time again
to decide, the blue people
found a man in blue
who was strong, and wise
and put him up for leader
but the red people
seeing red,
or feeling blue
yelled and
pushed and somehow
got the red man
over the blue man
again,
while the blue man
went home. But now,
for four more years
no one will listen
no one will care
no one will want to
ever see or hear
the red man
despite the television
the papers
all the news
mentioning
over and over
what he said
what he did
as the people
start to
turn their backs
on the red man
who, even now
is starting to fade
into a dry
industrial shade
of gray
